One Year Later – We Remember WPD Officer Jack Maguire

One year ago on December 26, 2010 I was getting my photo gear ready to cover the pending blizzard that was underway in the New England area. The radios were running in the background when all of a sudden the night turned into one I will not forget any time soon. Radio reports started coming in of shots fired at Kohls Department store on Washington St. in Woburn. The next reports were an officer was down… I arrived on scene in about 5 minutes and began to photograph. The scene was very fast paced as multiple police agencies began to arrive to assist in searching for suspects who had fled the scene.  I remember officers operating in very harsh conditions as the blizzard was well underway and the wind & snow were blowing. These officers never missed a beat and began and extensive search thought the neighborhood’s. The officers were able to apprehend two suspects later that night.

Tonight was a moving ceremony attended by many area police officers and family members.

One of a photojournalist’s main roles is to document history, which allows us to reflect on history through our images. This post will allow me to remember Jack Maguire and the lasting mark he left on all of us.
